We talk a lot about prevention across health and social care.

But if we already know prevention matters, why is it so difficult to make it part of everyday practice?

The King’s Fund is bringing together people from across health, care, public health and communities to explore what makes prevention work — and what repeatedly gets in its way.

Who?

People working across health, social care, public health, local government, charities, universities and communities, as well as anyone interested in prevention, population health and health inequalities.

What?

An in-person event using keynote talks, discussions and interactive sessions to examine how prevention can move from ambition into lasting action.

Topics include communities and neighbourhoods, devolution, inequalities, poverty, workforce pressures and lessons from previous prevention programmes.

Why does it matter?

Prevention is bigger than preventing someone becoming ill.

For social care, it can also mean helping somebody remain independent, connected and well; supporting families and unpaid carers earlier; creating stronger communities; and acting before a situation reaches crisis.

The question isn’t simply whether prevention works.

It is whether our systems, funding and priorities make enough space for it to happen.
