International Symposium on Solutions to Dementia Inequalities

Not everybody experiences dementia — or access to diagnosis, care and support — equally.
EquaDem Network Plus and the INTERDEM Taskforce on Inequalities in Dementia are bringing people together in Manchester to look beyond identifying those inequalities and towards finding practical solutions.
Who?
The symposium is open to anyone with an interest in dementia, including:
- People living with dementia
- Unpaid carers
- Health and social care professionals
- Commissioners
- Charities and voluntary organisations
- Researchers and academics
- Students
What?
An international symposium exploring inequalities in dementia diagnosis and care across the UK and Europe.
Speakers from Lithuania, Norway and Portugal will join UK participants to share experiences of dementia diagnosis, care and inequality in different countries.
The aim is not simply to compare systems, but to discuss what can be learned from each other and what practical solutions could help make dementia diagnosis and care more equitable.
Why does it matter?
Where somebody lives, their background, income, community, culture and ability to navigate services can all influence their experience of health and care.
That means inequality is not simply an individual problem.
It is a systems problem.
For One Social Care, understanding those differences matters because a system cannot genuinely be described as accessible if some people consistently find it harder to reach diagnosis, information, support or appropriate care.
