What happens when professional knowledge stops being written only for other professionals?

New Narratives of Nursing is a creative workshop inviting nurses to explore how research, projects and professional experience can be transformed into stories that reach people differently.

Who?

This opportunity is specifically designed for nurses who are interested in bringing their research, projects and professional knowledge to life through storytelling.

It may be particularly interesting for nurses working across health, social care, community services, research and creative health.

What?

A practical online workshop exploring how nursing research and projects can be transformed into short stories.

Participants will work with writers and editors to develop their ideas, with an opportunity for selected work to contribute to a professionally produced anthology currently being developed under the working title New Narratives of Nursing.

The wider project is aiming towards publication in 2027.

Why does it matter?

Evidence matters.

But how we communicate evidence matters too.

Research papers, reports and professional language do not always reach the people whose lives are affected by the knowledge they contain.

Storytelling can create another route.

It can help professional knowledge travel beyond institutions and allow people to understand not only what happened, but what an experience meant.

For social care, this matters enormously.

Some of our most important knowledge exists in the experiences of people providing care, receiving care, supporting families and working inside the system every day.
